How to Improve the Hygiene of a Whole Family

Good hygiene of an individual is important, but it doesn’t account for too much if all of the people around you do not pay attention to basic hygienic factors and end up just getting those around them sick.

This is most common with families as they spent the most time together. So, if you want your family to have sound health, you need to teach the kids (and yourself) some of these hygienic basics. Let’s get right into it.

  1. Know When it’s Necessary to Wash Your Hands

During the day, we depend on our hands for most of our activities, so it’s vital to keep them clean at all times in order to avoid diseases like gastroenteritis and the common cold. Washing our own hands, unfortunately, isn’t always going to keep us safe. This is because we can still get sick due to other people’s dirty hands touching our food or anything that will go in our mouth. With this in mind, for a family, it’s crucial for all of the family members to maintain acceptable hygienic levels in order to keep everyone in the family safe.

Another thing worth noting is the proper washing of wrists. People usually neglect washing their wrists and this can lead to diseases down the line. So, teach the kids these useful habits and you won’t have to worry about diseases caused by dirty hands. This will especially come in handy for those that pay attention to skin care. Here’s a list of the most common points when you should wash your hands:

  • Before and after eating
  • After touching animals
  • After using the toilet
  • After touching raw meat
  • After coughing or blowing your nose
  1. Hygienic Care When Traveling

When we travel, we tend to ignore some parts of our basic hygiene. This is why we made a little risk to remind you of the necessary steps you need to take to keep family hygiene on preferable levels.

  • Use your hands to eat food only when they are completely dry
  • Don’t use unclean water to wash your fruits and vegetables
  • Avoid using tap water to clean your teeth
  • Always make sure that the dishes are completely dry after washing them
  • Drink water exclusively from bottles
  1. Always Wear Clean Clothes

This one might seem like a no-brainer, but we tend to wear dirty clothes more often than we like to admit. Sometimes we will say that a piece of clothing just isn’t that dirty and wear it for a while longer. Change must come from the parents. If you want your children to listen to you, you must be a proper example to them. Change clothes on a daily level so they will see this as a normal occurrence and help them understand why they need to do this in order to boost their hygiene.

Remember, not smelly clothes don’t necessarily make them not dirty clothes.

  1. Hygienic Tips for Women

The vagina is a delicate organ and as such it must be treated with care. The best way of maintaining its hygiene is by washing the external parts. Here is how you deal with the following hygienic problems:

1) Cystitis

This is an infection of the bladder that is common in sexually active young females. The best way of dealing with it is by regularly urinating after sexual intercourse in order to get rid of any inside bacteria that may have entered the urethra as a result of the intercourse

2) Menstruation

When it happens the best course of action is to wash as you would usually do. Change tampons regularly (around four to five times a day) in order to avoid any potential health issues. Finally, always wash your hands before and after handling a tampon

3) Thrush

Thrush is the result of some applied soaps and detergents irritating the skin of the vagina. There have been a lot of cases of women using antibiotics and as a result, the bacteria that kept yeasts at bay would vanish and it would lead to a yeast infection. In order to minimize the chances of infection avoid wearing tight and synthetic underwear and use mild soap.

It is worth mentioning that bidets are known for their hygienic health benefits. With this in mind, investing in a bidet is a great way of improving the hygiene of the whole family.

  1. Encourage Family Members to Clean Regularly

A proper hygienic environment is a team effort, it requires everyone to chip in. With this said, you should promote family members to clean surfaces in order to avoid a build-up of bacteria.

So, make it a normal activity to clean table surfaces regularly as well as any other surface that family members come into contact with on a daily basis. This is especially important for the kitchen where you prepare meals for people. If you ignore this part of the house then most of your other efforts will have gone to waste.
