…By Lola Smith for TDPel Media. The Ministry of Justice in Kano State has declared the House of Representatives leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, innocent of charges related to culpable homicide and arson.
The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Musa Abdullahi Lawan, announced this during a press briefing held in Kano.
Lawan stated that after careful examination of the facts and evidence, they were unable to substantiate the charges of criminal conspiracy, mischief by fire, and culpable homicide against Doguwa.
Insufficient Evidence and Contradictory Testimonies Lead to Decision
Lawan further elaborated on the decision, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to connect Doguwa to the alleged crimes.
He highlighted that the investigation produced contradictory testimonies, with some implicating Doguwa while others absolved him.
Lawan emphasized that the statements made by those implicating Doguwa were inconsistent, and there was no medical evidence to support the claims of the victims’ deaths.
Doguwa’s Innocence Confirmed by Legal Standards
Lawan concluded by affirming that according to the law, the allegations of Doguwa causing harm to individuals could not be substantiated.
The decision to clear Doguwa of charges reflects the inability to establish his involvement in the alleged crimes.
Multiple Arrests Made, Charges Filed Against Suspects
In addition to Doguwa’s exoneration, Lawan mentioned that between eight to twelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
These individuals will face charges of mischief by fire, in accordance with Section 336 of the Penal Code.
