House Democrats Request Government Probe into Federal Funding of Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers Amid Concerns of Misinformation in Washington, D.C.

In a move aimed at increasing transparency and accountability, two House Democrats from the Oversight and Accountability Committee have called for an investigation into the funding of pro-life pregnancy resource centers.

Rep. Jamie Raskin and Rep. Maxwell Frost have formally requested the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct a study on the federal funding received by these centers, highlighting concerns about their operations.

Pro-life pregnancy centers play a significant role in offering support to pregnant women and struggling mothers with young children.

They provide a range of services including diapers, baby formula, ultrasounds, healthcare services, and educational classes.

According to the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute, these centers collectively offered nearly $368 million worth of goods and services in 2022.

Concerns Raised by House Democrats

Expressing their concerns in a letter to the GAO, Rep. Raskin and Rep. Frost emphasized worries about the practices of pregnancy resource centers.

They alleged that these centers operate with motives that could inhibit access to abortion care, accusing them of using deceptive tactics, misinformation, and intimidation.

The lawmakers further criticized the centers for allegedly presenting biased, limited, and scientifically inaccurate information to their clients.
