…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. The Chief Judge of the Osun State High Court, Justice Oyebola Ojo, has delivered the judgment in the murder case of Timothy Adegoke, a former master’s degree student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, a popular hotel owner, has been found guilty of Adegoke’s death, which occurred between November 5 and 7, 2021, at Hilton Honours Hotel in Ile-Ife.
Justice Ojo, while delivering the judgment, stated that the available circumstantial evidence pointed to Adegoke’s killing while he was a guest at Adedoyin’s hotel.
The judge emphasized that Adedoyin’s decision not to testify in court did not work in his favor, as the burden of proof had shifted onto him due to the circumstantial evidence.
Furthermore, Justice Ojo noted that Adedoyin’s refusal to take the witness stand implied his agreement with the murder charge pressed against him by the prosecution.
She dismissed the alibi presented by Adedoyin’s counsel, who claimed that the hotel owner was in Abuja during the time of Adegoke’s death.
The judge deemed the alibi unconvincing.
As a result, Adedoyin, along with two others who were found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, has been sentenced to death by hanging.
The tragic incident involved Adegoke, a Business Administration (MBA) student who had traveled from Abuja to Ile-Ife to write his examination.
He lodged at Hilton Honours Hotel, where he went missing on November 7, 2021, as reported by the police.
It is important to recall that Dr. Adedoyin, the hotel owner, and six of his staff members, namely Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwole Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem, Adebayo Kunle, and Adedeji Adesola, were standing trial on multiple charges, including conspiracy, murder, felony, indecent interference of the corpse, alteration, cancellation of receipt, and oath-taking to prevent justice.
