Head Coach, Bukola Duru, says she is confident of leading the Nigeria U-20 women’s team to victory at the 28th Africa Female Junior Handball Championship in Conakry, Guinea.
Nigeria will play host Guinea, Algeria and Gambia in group B of the Biennial handball Championship which holds in Conakry, Guinea.
The championship will hold from February 19 to 26, 2022 and Nigeria play the first match against Guinea
The National Junior Handball Female team left Nigeria through the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos on Thursday morning.
Just before their departure, Duru said the team is ready and will make Nigeria proud in Guinea citing the tune-up friendly games they had against Safety Babes who are the champions of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League.
“We are ready and with the level of training they have been getting, we’ll ensure we make Nigeria proud by proving our doubting Thomases wrong,” Coach Duro said.
“The board of the Handball Federation of Nigeria really supported us in all aspects and I know we will reciprocate by doing well in the court and ensure we not just qualify for the World Championship but also win the cup.
The players also echoed what the coach said.
Led by team captain, Toyin Yusuf, the players said they are ready to win the cup for Nigeria.
“We are ready to win the cup and make Nigeria proud and with everything our coaches have put us through, we believe we are tactically and technically capable of doing well in the competition,” Toyin said.
The delegation is led by the Technical Representative of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, coach Bala Mohammed, who highlighted the level of support of the HFN to the team.
