Gombe State Election Tribunal Dismisses ADC’s Petition Against Governor Inuwa Yahaya
The Gombe State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has made a significant decision by striking out the petition filed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) against Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
Challenge Over Certificate Arrangement Variation
The ADC had challenged the declaration and return of Governor Yahaya and his Deputy, Manassah Daniel.
Their main contention revolved around alleged multiplicity and variations in the arrangement of names on the certificates of the deputy, which, according to the petitioner, lacked accompanying affidavits.
This, in their view, rendered the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate invalid.
Tribunal’s Ruling
The Election Petitions Tribunal, however, ruled in favor of Governor Yahaya.
They stated that the matter was a pre-election issue and that the deputy had met the minimum certificate requirement to run for the position.
Allegations of Corrupt Practices and Vote Buying
Additionally, the ADC had alleged instances of corrupt practices and massive vote buying during the election.
However, the Tribunal dismissed these claims due to a lack of sufficient proof.
Ongoing Judgments
It’s worth noting that this decision is part of a series of judgments currently being issued by the Gombe State Election Petitions Tribunal, with more cases yet to be resolved.
