Tributes have been offered for a beloved couple of grandparents who tragically lost their lives after driving into a flooded section in Liverpool, just a few days before their 54th wedding anniversary.
Elaine Marco, aged 75, and Philip Marco, aged 77, were discovered within a black Mercedes on Queens Drive in Mossley Hill on Saturday around 9:20 PM. They were subsequently taken to a hospital where they were declared deceased.
The family released a statement expressing that their consolation stems from the fact that they remained together until the end. The statement read, “We are deeply saddened and devastated by the sudden passing of Elaine and Philip Marco. They were cherished parents to four children and grandparents to 10 grandchildren.”
The family statement also conveyed that relatives from America and Australia were making their way to attend the mourning process. Furthermore, it was shared that they were just days away from marking their 54th wedding anniversary, underscoring the solace that they remained united until their final moments.
The tragedy led to road closures, with Merseyside Police affirming that the road would continue to be closed for an extended period. Liverpool City Council conveyed their sympathy for the family, terming the incident as “tragic.”
United Utilities, the water supply provider for the area, noted that their infrastructure in the region was without issues.
