In a dramatic turn of events, a missing autistic child in Florida was safely found and reunited with his family thanks to the quick actions of a dedicated deputy.

On Tuesday night, around 7:30 p.m., a five-year-old boy from Deltona wandered away from his home.

His parents were immediately alerted by an alarm that signaled he was missing. They quickly began searching for him, while neighbors called 911 for assistance.

Deputies from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office began their search with a particular focus on nearby bodies of water, knowing the boy had a fascination with water.

After nearly 20 tense minutes, Deputy Wes Brough made a breakthrough. He heard a faint voice and soon spotted the child clinging to a log in a pond just a few blocks away from his home.

The Heroic Rescue

Without hesitation, Deputy Brough plunged into the pond and managed to rescue the boy.

Video footage captures the moment Brough held the child securely as he was brought to safety. Thankfully, the boy was checked over by medical professionals and returned to his relieved family.

The boy’s family mentioned that they had several safety measures in place, including an alarm system on their door, to prevent such incidents.

Deputy Brough had received Autism Awareness Training, which prepared him to handle the situation effectively. Officials praised everyone involved for their swift and effective response, highlighting the teamwork that led to the happy resolution of this urgent situation.
