Federal Government to Suspend Salaries of Unregistered Civil Servants

The Federal Government is reportedly planning to suspend the salaries of federal civil servants whose details are not enlisted on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

This development is set to take effect in November 2023, and it comes in response to the one-month grace period issued by the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, urging workers to upload their details to the IPPIS portal.

Imminent Salary Cuts for Non-Compliant Civil Servants

The one-month grace period, set to expire on October 27, is nearing its end, according to sources familiar with the matter.

As a sign of the government’s seriousness regarding this issue, the office of the Accountant General of the Federation has already temporarily suspended salaries for non-compliant civil servants for the month of August 2023.

Government’s Ultimatum and Warning to Civil Servants

An anonymous but highly authoritative source revealed the urgency of the situation, stating, “A grace period was given, and the deadline ends by October 27, 2023.

Anyone who fails to make use of this opportunity will have themselves to blame as their salaries will be suspended from October end. This means no salaries from this month.”

Official Confirmation of the IPPIS Deadline

The move towards salary suspension is confirmed by another source, a senior official in the civil service, who disclosed the issuance of a letter by the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation.

The letter, dated October 3, 2023, provides details regarding the verification exercise conducted for all civil servants and the subsequent necessity of updating their records on the IPPIS portal.

Categories of Affected Civil Servants

The letter highlights that two categories of officers are affected: those who did not update their records online and those who updated their records but were unable to complete the process or print the registration slip indicating the completion of the online registration exercise.

The letter also provides the timeline for this last opportunity, with a verification portal open from October 3rd to October 10th, 2023.

Following this, physical verification is scheduled to take place from October 16th to October 27th, 2023, at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria in Abuja.

Final Opportunity for IPPIS Inclusion

The letter underscores the significance of this last chance, stating, “All concerned officers are to note that this is the last opportunity for the exercise.”

Civil servants are urged to comply with IPPIS registration promptly to avoid the risk of having their salaries suspended.
