Estranged Wife of Accused Gilgo Beach Serial Killer Rex Heuermann Attends Court Hearing Wearing Engagement Ring Amidst Ongoing Legal Proceedings in Riverhead

As Rex Heuermann, the accused Gilgo Beach serial killer, faced his latest court appearance, his estranged wife, Asa Ellerup, made a notable statement. Despite the grim circumstances, she was seen wearing her engagement ring, a symbol of her past life with Heuermann.

Asa Ellerup arrived at the Suffolk County Criminal Courthouse in Riverhead dressed casually in a white blouse, light blue trousers, and pink sneakers. Accompanied by her lawyer, Robert Macedonio, and her emotional support dog, Stewie “Stuart,” Ellerup appeared composed. Her daughter, Victoria, was not with her.

The court session was a procedural one, focusing on the submission of new evidence against Heuermann. Heuermann, who was present, remained silent throughout the hearing, standing alongside his defense attorney, Michael Brown.

He looked notably older and grayer compared to his arrest photos.

During the proceedings, Heuermann was spotted nodding towards where Ellerup sat at the back of the courtroom. Etterup, wearing her signature dark sunglasses, quickly left the courthouse with Stewie as photographers swarmed.

Though she smiled briefly, she did not respond to any questions.

Following the hearing, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney held a press conference.

He provided details about the extensive evidence being gathered for the case, which spans several decades and includes a comprehensive review of missing persons files, forensic data, and investigative notes.

Outside the courthouse, Heuermann’s attorney, Michael Brown, reiterated his client’s wish to face his day in court. Brown mentioned that Heuermann is trying to cope with his current situation as best as he can.

Heuermann spends his time reviewing case materials on a computer and using the prison law library, with some time allocated to outdoor activities. Brown also noted that Heuermann has regular communication with Ellerup and visits from their daughter, Victoria.

Stewie: A Bright Spot in the Case

Ellerup’s emotional support dog, Stewie, has been a comforting presence throughout this turbulent time. Stewie, a Labrador-Chihuahua mix, has been a topic of lightheartedness among Ellerup’s team, with jokes about his potential Instagram fame.

Ellerup shared that Stewie was rescued from a shelter in the Hamptons and is currently being trained as a service dog.

The family recently hired a trainer to help with his tasks, especially since previous boarding experiences were costly and inconvenient.

Ongoing Investigations and Charges

Heuermann, an architect, faces charges for the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Lynn Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Jessica Taylor, and Sandra Costilla.

The victims were discovered wrapped in burlap along Ocean Parkway on Long Island. In April, officials searched Heuermann’s property in Manorville, where further evidence was uncovered.

A grand jury indicted him in June for the additional murders of Jessica Taylor and Sandra Costilla based on DNA evidence obtained from another search of his home.

As the case continues to unfold, the community remains focused on the extensive investigation and the quest for justice for the victims.
