In order to fix a significant pipe in Soweto, Johannesburg Water scheduled an emergency shutdown for Wednesday, August 23, but it hasn’t been finished yet.
THE REASON FOR THE DELAYS IN FIXING THE ISSUE IN SOWETO
Johannesburg Water claims that obstacles have prevented the Orlando East reservoir from being fixed as of yet.
On Wednesday, August 23, Johannesburg Water sent an update to the Soweto community.
“The emergency shutdown repairs that were being conducted on a burst pipe, 700 mm steal water pipe, which feeds Orlando East Reservoir, on Wednesday, 23 August, were not completed due to technical problems,” the post stated.
Johannesburg Water reported that there is no water intake into the Orlando East reservoir as a result.
Orlando East as a whole and some areas of Orlando West will be impacted by this.
THE SOWETO AREAS AFFECTED
Orlando East includes a number of affected locations, such as:
Power Park in Diepkloof, Armadale, Bosmont, and Dlamini
WATER TOWERS ARE Having Issues
Speaking of tower issues, the organisation also reported a burst pipe on the supply line from the South Hills tower on Augustus Street, South Hills.
The entity claims that the water has been separated (closed) so that repairs can be made.
“During the repairs, customers in the tower zone (South Hills) will experience low pressure or no water. 23:00 is the anticipated completion time, according to Johannesburg Water from yesterday (Wednesday).
Additionally, the South Hills tower lost water delivery late on Tuesday.
But technical teams were sent to get into the root of the problem.
Residents in higher lying locations were advised that water pressure could be poor or absent due to the severely low water levels.
