…By Alan Peterson for TDPel Media. An 11-year-old schoolgirl experienced physical and emotional trauma after being bitten by a large dog.
The same aggressive animal had previously attacked a 74-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman in separate incidents.
The terrified schoolgirl was walking home from school when the dog suddenly lunged at her, causing a deep wound on her wrist.
Previously a dog lover, she now suffered from nightmares and developed a fear of dogs, as revealed in Hull Crown Court.
Series of Attacks Committed by Dog Owner
Faisal Waleed, residing in Alliance Avenue, Hull, admitted to being the owner of a brown Alsatian-type dog that had dangerously attacked and injured individuals on three different occasions.
The Hull Daily Mail reported the incidents occurring on November 30, December 1, and December 16.
According to the prosecution by Rachel Scott, the first attack involved a 74-year-old man who was ambushed by the dog while on his morning walk in Victoria Dock.
The dog bit his right arm, causing him to fall to the ground.
Despite Waleed’s attempts to intervene, the dog continued its assault, biting the man on both shoulders.
Although Waleed apologized and offered assistance, the victim declined and went to the hospital himself.
Young Woman Attacked in the Presence of Dog Owner
The following day, a 20-year-old woman and her mother encountered Waleed walking with two large dogs, one of which had previously attacked the man.
Waleed was not holding the aggressive dog’s leash, which trailed along the ground.
As the woman passed by, the dog lunged at her, latching onto her arm for about a minute.
Waleed made minimal effort to help until eventually pulling the dog away, after which he shouted for an ambulance.
The woman suffered bruises and marks on her arm and experienced ongoing pain and discomfort.
Schoolgirl’s Terrifying Encounter
On December 16, an 11-year-old girl encountered the dog again while walking home from school.
The dog, now on an elastic lead held by Waleed, barked and lunged at the girl, causing her to fall to the ground.
The dog bit her left wrist, resulting in a deep wound that required stitches.
The girl experienced nightmares and was referred for therapy, revealing her fear of dogs and the lasting impact of the attack.
Psychological and Physical Consequences
The victims and their families endured significant psychological and physical consequences due to the attacks.
The 74-year-old man experienced anxiety whenever he encountered dogs off-leash and had lingering pain in the affected areas.
The 20-year-old woman’s arm remained weakened, causing discomfort and hindering her work.
She developed a fear of dogs, which was disheartening for someone who previously loved them.
The 11-year-old girl also suffered from nightmares, fear, and a loss of confidence.
Her left hand had limited feeling in two fingers, and she avoided unfamiliar dogs.
Dog Owner’s Reckless Behavior and Consequences
During police interviews, Waleed expressed concern for the well-being of the victims, acknowledging the dangerous nature of his dog.
He struggled to control the dog due to its strength.
The dog was subsequently seized by the police and put down because Waleed did not want to cover veterinary costs.
Waleed obtained the dog for companionship without being aware of its aggressive tendencies.
He deeply regretted the incidents, understood the impact on the victims, and expressed remorse.
As an asylum seeker from Kuwait, he had left his home country due to religious persecution concerns.
Although unaware of the outcome of his asylum claim, he feared the repercussions of returning to Kuwait.
Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
In court, Judge John Thackray KC addressed Waleed, highlighting the terror and injuries inflicted upon the victims.
The judge noted Waleed’s reckless disregard for the safety of others, emphasizing that the incidents could have resulted in fatalities.
Recognizing the profound effect on the victims, who may never fully recover, Waleed was sentenced to two years in prison and banned indefinitely from owning a dog.
