In a disturbing incident captured on video, a man has been banned from keeping dogs after viciously attacking an XL Bully-type breed with a shovel.
The shocking footage shows the man repeatedly hitting the helpless pet with so much force that he almost lost his footing.
The incident occurred in the backyard of Pembury Estate in Hackney, north London, and was reported to the police by a concerned neighbor who filmed the abuse on November 8 last year.
Owner Admits to Allowing Suffering
The owner, identified as Simon Thomas, handed himself in after the attack and admitted to allowing suffering to the dog at Stratford Magistrates’ Court.
Although he claimed that Ace was his pet, he denied being the one who hit the dog. Despite his denial, Thomas was fined £375, ordered to pay costs of £1,419, and banned from owning a dog.
Legal Proceedings and Public Outrage
According to a Met Police spokesperson, Status Dogs Unit officers arrested and charged Thomas after the viral video surfaced.
Initially, Thomas pleaded not guilty, but the charge was later altered to a Section 4 (2) offense of being responsible for allowing suffering.
He eventually pleaded guilty to this offense, leading to the imposed fine, costs, and disqualification from owning dogs for 12 months.
Community Reaction
Local residents expressed outrage and demanded stricter penalties for animal cruelty.
Nick Price and Richard Stoyle condemned the perpetrator’s actions, calling for harsher sentences for such crimes.
Another local, identified as Dave, praised the authorities for taking action in this instance of animal abuse.
