…By Roland Peterson for TDPel Media. Two individuals, Sihle Mkhize (25) and Siyabonga Maye (35), stood before the Durban Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 6 June, facing charges related to the kidnapping and murder of Chanlall Shan Dwarika.
The victim was a lecturer at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) located in Umlazi, south of Durban.
Investigation Unveils Disturbing Events Leading to the Lecturer’s Demise
After being reported missing, investigations by the police revealed evidence linking Dwarika’s disappearance to charges of kidnapping and carjacking.
Tragically, a few days later, his lifeless body was discovered near Mafuya Road in Inanda.
The incident was captured on CCTV footage, which showed three men forcibly escorting the elderly lecturer into the back of his black Honda CRV.
Following this distressing incident, there were no further sightings or updates regarding Dwarika’s well-being.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal, stated that Mkhize and Maye face multiple charges, including kidnapping, murder, and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The court has remanded the case until 13 June 2023 to provide sufficient time for bail information to be presented.
