LeAnn Rimes recently got candid about the challenges she faced growing up under the intense scrutiny of the public eye.
In an interview with Stellar Magazine, the 41-year-old American singer reflected on her transition from country to pop music and the pressure of evolving her image as she matured.
LeAnn shared that as she shifted from country music to pop and began exploring a more adult persona, she encountered significant judgment.
“I don’t think people honestly, until my 30s, allowed me to grow up,” she revealed.
The singer elaborated, “In this industry, people like to pigeonhole you because it’s easier for them to market you. It’s hard to ask a 13-year-old girl to stay in a single lane, especially when you’re seen as America’s sweetheart.”
The Challenge of Growth and Criticism
According to LeAnn, many people want to keep her frozen in time, resisting her natural evolution. “They don’t want to see you change. But growing up means exploring different aspects of yourself, including your sexuality,” she said.
LeAnn admitted that while she tries to stay resilient, criticism does affect her at times. “You have to balance caring and not caring simultaneously. As women, we can be really hard on ourselves.
I have days where I feel great and others where I feel less confident. I’m learning to give myself more grace and just go with the flow,” she explained.
New Role on The Voice Australia
In exciting news, LeAnn has been announced as a new member of The Voice Australia coaching panel. This year’s lineup features three fresh faces, with Guy Sebastian being the only returning coach from the previous season.
LeAnn will be joined by Grammy-nominated singer Adam Lambert, Australian songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke, and the returning Guy Sebastian. “I am incredibly honored and excited to embrace the opportunity of coaching on The Voice,” LeAnn said about her new role.
“This chance to mentor and discover new voices across Australia is a reflection of the support I’ve received from my Australian fans throughout my career. I’m excited to give back, share my experiences, and hear new, promising talent.”
A Storied Career
Known professionally as Margaret LeAnn Rimes Cibrian, LeAnn has enjoyed a successful career since she burst onto the scene at age 13 with her hit single “Blue” in 1996.
She has released over 40 charting singles, collaborated with A-list stars like Elton John and Stevie Nicks, and sold over 48 million records worldwide.
