Chelsea is reportedly negotiating with Napoli for a potential deal that could see them bring Victor Osimhen to Stamford Bridge. At the same time, Romelu Lukaku might make a move to Serie A, possibly joining Napoli.
The latest buzz is that Lukaku, who’s been on loan for the past two seasons, might finally make a permanent move away from Chelsea. Reports from The Athletic suggest that talks are progressing for Lukaku’s transfer to Napoli.
If this deal goes through, it could pave the way for Osimhen to join Chelsea, potentially on a loan basis with an option to buy.
Victor Osimhen has been a standout performer for Napoli since his arrival in 2020, following a high-profile £80 million transfer from Lille.
The 25-year-old forward has scored 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli, playing a crucial role in their Serie A title win in the 2022-23 season.
Last season, despite Napoli’s tough defense of their title, Osimhen netted 17 goals in 32 matches across all competitions.
Recent Developments and Future Speculations
Osimhen extended his contract with Napoli until 2026 last December, which included a significant pay rise and a release clause reportedly set at €130 million (£113 million).
Earlier this month, PSG was close to securing Osimhen in a deal worth around £84 million, but the move fell through when PSG balked at paying the full release clause.
Osimhen, who had previously turned down a move to the Saudi Pro League, hinted in January that he had already decided on his next destination. He expressed admiration for the Premier League, calling it one of the “biggest and best leagues in the world.”
Lukaku’s Reunion with Conte
If Lukaku joins Napoli, he would reunite with his former Inter Milan manager, Antonio Conte.
During their time together at Inter, Lukaku was in sensational form, scoring 34 goals in the 2019-20 season and 30 goals the following year. Chelsea then paid £97.5 million to bring him back in the summer of 2021.
After scoring 15 goals in his first season back at Chelsea, Lukaku returned to Inter on loan and netted 21 goals in 47 matches during his loan spell at Roma for the 2023-24 season.
