When visiting the Braemar Royal Highland Gathering, not far from his summer estate at Balmoral in Aberdeenshire, the King debuted a new tartan.
To celebrate the crowning of King Charles III, the Scottish Tartans Authority created a new tartan earlier this year in the royal colors of green, blue, and red.
The Queen, who wore an ensemble by Mr Roy, attended the King, as did the Princess Royal and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.
“Our iconic national cloth has a distinct style and evokes deep feelings of belonging, making it the best-known and best-loved fabric in the world,” said John McLeish, chair of the Scottish Tartans Authority.
Tartan, Highland dress, and the customs of the Highlands all have a strong advocate in the form of the King.

We are deeply grateful to His Majesty for giving his blessing to the design of a new tartan to honor him.
King Charles III’s tartan will forever be remembered as a piece of history. It was an honor to see His Majesty don the tartan for the first time today at Braemar.
Although Charles has not yet been proclaimed the gathering’s leader, he will soon assume that role as is customary for the king.
The games are a tradition for the royal family, and a snapshot from last year’s event was featured on one of their holiday cards.
Winners in several sporting events, such as the shot put and the tug of war, were awarded trophies by the King.
