British Army Officer Stabbed Near Brompton Barracks in Gillingham, Suspect Arrested on Attempted Murder Charges

On Tuesday, a British Army officer was the victim of a shocking stabbing incident just 200 yards from an army barracks in Gillingham.

Police received reports of a serious assault at Sally Port Gardens in Gillingham, Kent, at 5:55 PM on July 23.

The officer, believed to be a lieutenant colonel in his 40s, sustained injuries consistent with stab wounds.

He was airlifted to a hospital where his condition is currently described as serious but stable.

Anthony Esan, 24, was apprehended near his home on Mooring Road in Rochester around 6:30 PM the same evening.

Legal Proceedings and Security Measures

Esan now faces charges of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, according to Kent Police.

He is scheduled to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 25.

The attack occurred near Brompton Barracks, which briefly went into lockdown with soldiers ordered to stay indoors.

An air ambulance was spotted landing in Great Lines Heritage Park nearby.
