Senate Screens Nominees for Central Bank of Nigeria Leadership

Senate Commences Screening Process

The Senate of Nigeria has commenced the screening process for key appointments within the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This includes the acting Governor of the CBN, Olayemi Cardoso, who has been nominated by President Bola Tinubu for the position of Governor.


Nomination of Olayemi Cardoso

President Tinubu had approved the nomination of Olayemi Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, pending confirmation by the Senate.

Cardoso has assumed his duties in an acting capacity until the Senate’s confirmation process is completed.


Deputy Governor Nominees

In addition to Olayemi Cardoso’s nomination, President Tinubu has nominated four individuals for the position of Deputy Governors at the CBN.

These nominees are Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala Bello.


Initiation of Screening Process

The Senate’s screening process for these key appointments was initiated following a motion presented by the Majority Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele.
