Bollywood Lata Mangeshkar Dies

Bollywood Lata Mangeshkar passed away recently.
Mangeshkar, a Bollywood vocalist and one of India’s most famous cultural icons, died on Sunday at the age of 92.
Mangeshkar, whose lilting voice defined music and melody for decades, died this morning from multi-organ failure after her doctor verified her positive COVID-19 status on January 11.
Mangeshkar’s classically trained singing voice with a range of more than three octaves allowed her to mold the music of the continent for more than 70 years, and her voice was recorded for music in more than 2,000 Indian films.
Her stunning voice has rung out of television sets, on crackly airwaves, and from movie theatres for most of independent India’s three-quarters of a century, which made many generations tag her ‘the Nightingale’.
On Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote, “I am anguished beyond words.”
In a statement by the Home Ministry, Mangeshkar will receive a state funeral, and the government will observe state mourning with the flag at half-mast through Monday.
The Prime Minister, while using an affectionate term for older sister, wrote “The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us.
“She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people.”
