In a shocking turn of events, a renowned author known for his thrilling collaborations has found himself in serious legal trouble.
Brendan DuBois, a 64-year-old New York Times best-selling author famous for co-writing thrillers with James Patterson, was arrested in New Hampshire on Wednesday.
He faces six counts of child pornography possession.
The investigation began in March when Google flagged a Google Drive account containing “apparent child pornography.”
This led Exeter Police and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to dig deeper.
After obtaining a search warrant, authorities raided DuBois’ home, leading to his eventual surrender to the police.
Currently, DuBois is being held at the 10th Circuit Court in Brentwood, awaiting his arraignment.
The disturbing images reportedly showed children in suggestive poses or engaging in sexual acts with adults.
Discovery and Evidence
Authorities traced the IP address of the Google Drive account to DuBois’ home on May 7.
Although DuBois initially refused to speak to the authorities, his wife, Mona Pinette, mentioned that they used separate computers and had a secure Wi-Fi password, ensuring no external access.
She also confirmed that they were the only ones at home when the images were downloaded.
Publisher’s Reaction
Severn River Publishing, which published 12 of DuBois’ books, swiftly removed his biography and references to his novels from their website.
The company expressed their distress over the allegations and decided to suspend all promotion and sales of DuBois’ books to maintain their values and trust with readers and the publishing community.
DuBois’ Background
DuBois, a former reporter turned mystery novelist, has had a prolific career, including nine co-authored books with James Patterson, who holds the record for selling 100 million books across all print formats.
DuBois has written 29 novels, won the Edward D. Hoch Memorial Golden Derringer for Lifetime Achievement in 2021, and appeared on Jeopardy in 2012.
Conclusion
As the legal process unfolds, the literary community watches closely, grappling with the serious allegations against a once-celebrated author.
