Introduction

Former Super Eagles captain and coach, Austin Eguavoen, has passionately called on the Super Eagles players to secure victory in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), a title Nigerians have longed for.

Eguavoen’s Leadership in the Last Tournament

Under Eguavoen’s guidance in the group stage, the team showed promise.

, their journey was cut short in the knockout stage by Tunisia.

New Coach Jose Pasiero’s Arrival

Following the disappointing performance, Eguavoen resumed his role as a technical director, and the Nigeria Football Federation introduced Jose Pasiero as the new head coach.

Much like his predecessors, Pasiero is tasked with assisting Nigeria in securing their first AFCON victory in a decade.

The last triumph was achieved in 2013 under the leadership of the late coach Stephen Keshi in South Africa.

Optimism Surrounding the 2023 AFCON

In a significant development, the Super Eagles effortlessly qualified for the 2023 AFCON without convoluted qualification processes.

Consequently, the football community in Nigeria anticipates the team carrying their impressive form to the main tournament, set to take place in Ivory Coast starting on January 13.

Eguavoen’s Call for Support

During an interview with Brila FM, Austin Eguavoen emphasized Nigeria’s potential to claim victory in the 2023 AFCON.

He urged all stakeholders to rally behind the team as they prepare for the competition. Eguavoen remarked, “We have been craving to try to get the Nations Cup back, since 2013 we’ve not been able to achieve that feat because we know we have the capacity, we have the quality and everything to be able to win it.

But to say it is easy to achieve it is another thing, so everybody has to work towards the same goal, support the team whichever way we can, support the coaches, and the players have to go out there and do the job.”
