Robert Aslanyan, a determined contestant on Britain’s Got Talent (BGT), has initiated legal proceedings against the show’s producers, seeking a substantial £85 million in compensation.
Aslanyan, who has no legal representation and is representing himself, has filed papers with the High Court alleging that his most recent audition was unfairly canceled due to Covid-19.
Freemantle Media, the production company behind BGT, has vehemently denied these claims, stating that all contestants have an equal chance of being selected for the show.
Dreams Dashed by Covid Cancellation
Aslanyan had high hopes for his audition, intending to perform his original song “Our Mother Queen” as a heartfelt tribute.
He traveled from Manchester to Cardiff with his family, friends, and technical assistants, all eager to support his bid for stardom.
However, upon arrival at the audition venue in December 2020, he was met with disappointment as security guards informed him that all auditions had been canceled due to the ongoing pandemic.
Financial Fallout and Lost Opportunities
The aspiring singer-songwriter claims that the cancellation not only shattered his dreams of appearing on the show but also resulted in significant financial losses.
He alleges that a potential lucrative musical and marketing contract with LTOE Trade Ltd for his project titled “Britannia, Britannia” fell through due to his inability to showcase his talent on BGT.
As a result, Aslanyan estimates his total losses at a staggering £85 million, including the cost of the canceled trip, a Tesco food bill, and damages for emotional distress and loss of opportunity.
Legal Dispute and Denials
In response to Aslanyan’s claims, barrister Mark Wilden, representing Freemantle Media, has refuted the allegations, stating that the company fulfilled all its obligations to the contestant as per the terms of the competition.
Wilden argues that the decision to proceed to the judges’ auditions is entirely at the producers’ discretion and does not constitute a breach of contract.
He has called for Aslanyan’s claim to be dismissed, citing a lack of reasonable grounds.
Seeking Justice and Compensation
Despite facing significant legal hurdles and representing himself in court, Aslanyan remains steadfast in his pursuit of justice and compensation.
He is determined to hold BGT accountable for what he perceives as a missed opportunity and financial loss.
Aslanyan’s case highlights the challenges faced by aspiring artists and contestants in the competitive world of talent shows, where dreams can be shattered by unforeseen circumstances.
