Amotekun’s Swift Action: Scavenger’s Abduction Attempt Thwarted
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, has successfully apprehended a scavenger who attempted to kidnap an eight-year-old girl in Akure, the state capital.
The operation unfolded as the suspect disguised as a scavenger, utilizing charms to subdue the young victim.
Grandmother’s Alarm Leads to Apprehension
The kidnapper’s plan took an unexpected turn when the courageous young girl started crying, attracting the attention of her grandmother.
The alarmed grandmother raised the alert, prompting Amotekun operatives to swiftly intervene and apprehend the suspected kidnapper.
Father’s Account of the Incident
The father of the eight-year-old victim, Mr. Bose James, shared details of the incident, recounting that he was outside washing clothes while his daughter went to the backyard to use the toilet.
The cries of the girl alerted her grandmother, who discovered the kidnapper disguised as a scavenger and attempting to hide the child in a sack.
Rescue Effort and Amotekun’s Intervention
Despite the kidnapper’s resistance, the father managed to hold onto him, preventing his escape.
An Okada rider witnessed the scene and promptly alerted Amotekun Corps stationed in the Maronu area. The operatives arrived, rescued the girl, and arrested the suspect.
State Commander’s Statement on the Arrest
Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the State Commander of Amotekun, provided insights into the incident. He explained that the cry of the young girl attracted residents, who attempted to intervene.
The suspect, pretending to be a scavenger, tried to flee with the girl, but the grandmother’s alarm thwarted his escape.
Confession and Investigation
Following interrogation, it was revealed that the apprehended suspect is an experienced kidnapper who confessed to engaging in such activities for a while.
Adeleye emphasized that investigations are ongoing before the suspect is handed over to the court.
Condition of the Victim and Warning to Parents
The eight-year-old child, though injured from the attack, is reported to be mentally stable and responding well to treatment.
Adeleye issued a warning to parents, urging them to be vigilant, especially around individuals posing as scavengers, as they may be potential threats or informants to criminals.
