AmaZulu FC have made a strategic move to enhance their attacking lineup by signing Etiosa Ighodaro, a striker from Mamelodi Sundowns, on a season-long loan.
As AmaZulu gear up for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, they are determined to improve on their 11th-place finish from last year.
The club has been active in reshaping their squad, parting ways with several first-team players to create room for new talent.
Recently, AmaZulu released players like George Maluleka, Augustine Kwem, Veluyeke Zulu, and Victor Letsoalo, who has since moved to TS Galaxy.
Kwem’s departure came as a surprise to many, especially since he was the club’s top scorer last season with eight goals in 28 games across all competitions.
Etiosa Ighodaro Joins the Squad
To fill the gaps in their forward line, AmaZulu have brought in Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro.
Last season, Ighodaro made 35 appearances in all competitions for SuperSport, scoring eight goals and providing two assists.
Since joining Mamelodi Sundowns in July 2021 from Abuja College, Ighodaro has been on several loan spells, including stints with the University of Pretoria, Chippa United, and SuperSport United.
A Promising Addition
According to sources, Ighodaro is yet to secure a place in Sundowns’ long-term plans, making another loan move a practical step.
AmaZulu believe Ighodaro can effectively replace the likes of Victor Letsoalo and Augustine Kwem. A club insider noted, “If he can stay injury-free, we’re likely to see him at his best next season.”
Welcoming Luvuyo Phewa
In addition to Ighodaro, AmaZulu have also secured Luvuyo Phewa on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Phewa spent last season with Cape Town Spurs, who were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Looking Ahead
AmaZulu’s efforts in the transfer market demonstrate their ambition and readiness to compete at a higher level in the upcoming season.
With these new additions, they are poised to make a significant impact on the league.
