Amanda Nyoka, a 33-year-old self-taught makeup artist, has embarked on a journey to diversify her business by establishing her own skincare line.
Her passion for the beauty industry has been a driving force behind this venture. Nyoka’s career began in 2013 when she started as an intern for a community broadcaster in the Eastern Cape, recommended by a friend who recognized her talent in hairstyling and makeup artistry.
From Internship to Business: The Journey of Amanda Nyoka
Nyoka’s career journey took her from being an intern to establishing her own business called “Amish Beauty & Glamor.”
Her business offers a range of beauty services, including makeup services, weave installation, and hair styling. After spending five years in the field, she made a conscious decision to formalize her business operations, invest in branding, and create a physical workspace for her services.
Empowered by the National Youth Development Agency
In 2021, Nyoka sought support from the National Youth Development Agency, which recommended she complete a Business Management Training course.
After successfully finishing the training, she received a grant of R50,000. This grant was a pivotal moment in her business journey, enabling her to invest in makeup tools, office equipment, and ultimately, the establishment of her skincare line.
Diving into Skincare: A Passion for Sustainable Business
Nyoka’s passion for skincare led her to develop her own skincare line. Her journey involved experimentation, mixing various ingredients at home, and seeking feedback from friends and family.
After perfecting her formulations, she designed the packaging for her products and launched them under the brand “Amish Health Skin” using social media as a platform.

Her skincare line includes a variety of products such as body lotion, tissue oil, face serum, face cream, and bar soaps.
Nyoka has been able to sell around 400 bottles per quarter, demonstrating the growing demand for her products.
A Strong Local Presence and Corporate Collaborations
Amanda Nyoka’s business is located in Zidwe, Gqeberha, where she operates from a container.
Over time, she has built a robust customer base. In addition to catering to individual customers, Nyoka extends her makeup services to corporate clients, including work in TV productions with companies like Moja Love and Connect TV.
She is proactive in reaching out to potential clients and expanding her business opportunities.
Embracing Online Presence: A Website Supported by SEDA
Nyoka is currently working on her website, with support from the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA).
SEDA is not only assisting with website development but also covering the costs of product testing. This move signifies her commitment to embracing the digital landscape for her business.
