…By Jack Sylva for TDPel Media. The Labour Party (LP) has demanded the immediate sack of Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Additionally, the party called for the dismissal of Festus Okoye, the INEC Federal Commissioner in charge of voter education.
These demands were made by the Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation, which accused the two individuals of leading the commission in the desecration of the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.
Allegations of Financial Mismanagement and Result Manipulation
According to the statement released by the Labour Party campaign organization, INEC misused the funds provided by the government and international bodies for the 2023 general elections in the country.
The organization claimed that INEC spent billions of taxpayer’s money on the pretext of implementing technological innovations, such as the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), for the election.
However, the party alleges that INEC resorted to manually manipulating the election results to impose their preferred presidential candidate on the Nigerian people.
Calls for Immediate Sacking and Prosecution
In light of these allegations, the Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization demanded the immediate dismissal and prosecution of Professor Yakubu Mahmood and Festus Okoye for the crimes they were accused of committing.
The organization called for a forensic financial investigation into the funds disbursed to INEC by the government and international community.
They also urged the international community to sanction the erring officers for wasting their funds and compromising the integrity of the presidential election.
Demands for Accountability and Consequences
The statement emphasized the need for accountability and consequences for the actions of the INEC leadership.
The Labour Party campaign organization highlighted the discrepancy between the technological improvements promised by INEC and their alleged manipulation of the election through manual collation of results.
The organization argued that the disregard for technological innovations rendered previous advancements in election processes useless.
It further suggested that the INEC Chairman and the Federal Commissioner should face severe consequences for their alleged involvement in these offenses, drawing a parallel with the prosecution of the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner.
Conclusion:
The Labour Party’s demands for the immediate sack and prosecution of INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu and INEC Federal Commissioner Festus Okoye highlight the serious allegations of election desecration, financial mismanagement, and result manipulation.
These calls for accountability and consequences reflect the Labour Party’s concerns regarding the integrity of the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.
