Afenifere Disbands Acting Leader Role in Monthly Meeting

In a significant decision made during its monthly meeting at the residence of the National Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has officially annulled the positions of acting leader and deputy leader held by Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

The group stated that this resolution aimed to reposition and rejuvenate Afenifere for future endeavors.

Formation of Afenifere Elders Caucus

As part of the restructuring process, Afenifere announced the establishment of the Afenifere Elders Caucus.

This newly formed group will now hold the responsibilities and authority to advise the leader of Afenifere and Asiwaju Yoruba, with Pa Reuben Fasoranti appointed as the chairman of the elders’ caucus.

The communique disclosed the prominent members of the Afenifere Elders Caucus, including Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Olu Falae, Senator Cornelius Adebayo, Senator Femi Okunrounmu, Seinde Arogbofa, Senator Kofo Bucknor-Akerele, Prince Ladigbolu, Lt. Gen Alani Akinrinade (Rtd.), Maj. Gen. Olu Bajowa (Rtd.), Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, Prof. Banji Akintoye, among others.

Concerns Over National Challenges

Expressing its displeasure with the current state of the nation, Afenifere addressed pressing socio-economic and security challenges in the country.

The group emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive restructuring of the nation and called upon President Bola Tinubu to initiate the necessary processes.

Calls for Restructuring and Security Overhaul

Afenifere reiterated its commitment to the restructuring of Nigeria, highlighting the need to overhaul the security architecture.

The communique urged for the devolution of powers, allowing states and local government councils to establish their police services to address the rising incidents of kidnapping and banditry.

The organization emphasized the importance of granting federating units control over mineral resources, citing the recent tragic blast in Ibadan as a consequence of the lack of state control over mining.

Optimism in President’s Commitment to True Federalism

Afenifere acknowledged the democratic and federalist stance of the President, expressing confidence that he would take actions conducive to achieving true federalism.

The organization envisioned a future where people could exercise self-determination within a genuinely democratic and federal nation.
