Access Bank Lagos City Marathon: LASG Announces Traffic Diversion

The Lagos State Government has announced diversions of traffic for Saturday, 12th February, 2022, as some designated roads will be closed for a few hours during the 7th edition of Access Bank Lagos City Marathon scheduled to hold in the city.
A statement signed by the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Sola Aiyepeku, said the marathon will be flagged off at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, and rounded off by the runners at the Eko Atlantic City on Lagos Island.
He stated plans have been made to create a smooth passage for the runners and minimise inconvenience to motorists during the marathon.
Aiyepeku said that motorists from Eko Bridge driving through Apongbon to Costain Roundabout will be connected to Ebute-Metta, Orile, Nigeria Breweries/Abebe Village, Eric Moore, Bode Thomas and Adeniran Ogunsanya to access their destinations as appropriate.
He explained that from Alaka Estate, motorists will be diverted to Iponri or Iponri Estate to link Bode Thomas, Adeniran Ogunsanya or Babs Animashaun to connect their destinations, while road users from Alhaji Masha inwards National Stadium shall be diverted through Shitta Roundabout and Akerele Street for onward movement through Falolu or Adeniran Ogunsanya.
The Chairman also stated that motorists from Apapa/Orile Iganmu going towards Funsho Williams Avenue will be routed through Apapa Road or Nigerian Breweries/Abebe Village to link Eric Moore, Bode Thomas, Babs Animashaun or Adeniran Ogunsanya to connect their destinations.
“Vehicular movement on Ikorodu Road is allowed from Anthony inwards Fadeyi to Eko Bridge inwards Lagos, but no movement will be allowed from Fadeyi inwards Anthony.
Motorists should also note that the use of Anthony interchange inwards Gbagada to connect Lagos/Toll Gate shall be barred. However, traffic coming from Gbagada can access Ikorodu Road through Anthony interchange or before it”, he added.
Speaking further, Aiyepeku informed that motorists from Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, which is from Mile 2, will be diverted through BOC Gases/Armed Force Resettlement Centre into the service lane to connect Agege Motor Road, noting that traffic shall also be diverted to Town Planning Way through the service lane after descending from Oshodi-Oke to connect their destinations as appropriate.
He said from Old Toll Gate to Alapere, Ogudu, no motorists will be allowed to access Third Mainland Bridge, instead, they will be diverted to Gbagada on Oworoshoki, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway to connect their destinations.
His words: “From Ajah, motorists coming towards Ozumba Mbadiwe Road shall be diverted to Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, while those coming from Lekki through the Cable Bridge (Ikoyi-Lekki Link Bridge) shall be diverted to Gerrard Road as Alexander and Bourdillion Roads would be temporarily closed to traffic”.
Also, the Chairman informed that motorists from Bonny Camp passing through the roundabout to Ozumba Mbadiwe Road shall be diverted to Kofo Abayomi Street via Old Mr. Biggs.
While expressing the Lagos State Government’s appreciation to the people for their cooperation and understanding, Aiyepeku wished all participants in the 7th edition of Access Bank Lagos City Marathon a successful outcome.
