Venda FC, a team competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, is bolstering its lineup for the upcoming season with two fresh signings from Mamelodi Sundowns. Keabetswe Ramotsei and Mzwekhaya Nkonxeni are the latest additions to the Vhembe-based squad.
Both players are making the move from Sundowns’ Diski Challenge squad, where they played pivotal roles in last season’s campaign. Sundowns finished as runners-up in the DDC, just behind Stellenbosch FC, who clinched the title.
Venda FC, which ended last season in 12th place in South Africa’s second tier, is aiming higher this year.
With 35 points from 30 matches last season, they’re looking to strengthen their squad and push for promotion to the Betway Premiership.
The addition of Ramotsei and Nkonxeni is part of Venda FC’s strategy to enhance their team for the new season. Under the guidance of Duncan Lechesa, who was crucial in preventing the club’s relegation, the team is gearing up to make a serious push for the top flight.
From the Streets to the PSL
Ramotsei’s journey is quite remarkable. He began playing football in the streets of Meadowlands, Soweto. His talent shone through when he joined Sundowns at the start of the 2023/24 season.
His impressive performances in the DDC earned him a spot in the first team, where he debuted in the Carling Knockout Cup against TS Galaxy. Though Sundowns lost in a penalty shootout, Ramotsei made a solid impact with a 46-minute appearance.
Nkonxeni’s Contribution
Nkonxeni also had a notable season with Sundowns, contributing to the team’s successes alongside Ramotsei. Their partnership was a significant factor in the DDC, causing challenges for opposing teams.
Looking Ahead
As the new season approaches, Venda FC is expected to officially announce their new signings soon. The team is eager to reveal how Ramotsei and Nkonxeni will fit into their plans for the year.
