SuperSport United’s assistant coach, Andre Arendse, has shared his thoughts on Vincent Pule’s first appearance for the club following their MTN8 clash with Orlando Pirates.
SuperSport United’s journey in the 2024 MTN8 came to a sudden halt on Saturday night with a 3-1 loss to Pirates at the packed Orlando Stadium.
Despite Pule making a memorable debut with a goal, it was only a consolation.
The defending champions, Pirates, progressed to the semi-finals thanks to goals from Olisa Ndah, Monnapule Saleng, and Evidence Makgopa.
Vincent Pule, a skilled winger, joined SuperSport United on a free transfer after his contract with Orlando Pirates ended. His debut showcased his potential as a significant attacking asset for Gavin Hunt’s team.
Before joining SuperSport, Pule struggled to secure regular playing time at Pirates, appearing in just 11 matches across all competitions and failing to score.
Coach Jose Riveiro often preferred other players like Monnapule Saleng, Relebohile Mofokeng, and Deon Hotto in the wide positions, while injuries also disrupted Pule’s performance.
Arendse’s Thoughts on Pule’s Debut
With Pule set to be a key player for SuperSport this season, Andre Arendse is optimistic about what he can bring to the team.
After head coach Hunt was dismissed for disputing with the referee, Arendse spoke to the media about Pule’s performance.
“He’s a player who can make a difference on any team.
We’ve worked with him before, and we know his abilities, even though he’s still young,” Arendse said.
“In pre-season, especially during friendly matches, we saw his potential in various positions.”
Arendse highlighted Pule’s attacking role, particularly on the wings. “We utilized him behind Bradley [Grobler] when he was on the field, and he provided valuable support and showed he can score goals.”
Respect for His Former Club
Arendse also commended Pule for his respect towards his former team, where he spent six successful years, winning three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups.
Pule chose not to celebrate his goal against his old club, which Arendse praised.
“Respecting his former club after scoring against them is a testament to his character. We’re excited about the upcoming season with a player like him on board.”
