Former Cape Town City FC Striker Khanyisa Mayo Transfers to CR Belouizdad in Algeria for R20 Million After the Club’s President Personally Encourages Him to Move

When Khanyisa Mayo, the former Cape Town City FC striker, made the leap to the Algerian team CR Belouizdad, it caught many by surprise.

The 25-year-old’s transfer, valued at around R20 million, was announced by the Algerian club last Friday.

Mayo’s departure from Cape Town City FC, where he played for three seasons after joining from Richards Bay FC, came as a significant change.

Despite interest from several major clubs, including prominent teams from Gauteng and some international offers, Mayo chose to head to Algeria.

The Role of CR Belouizdad’s President

One of the key factors in Mayo’s decision was the personal visit from CR Belouizdad’s president.

According to Mayo, the president’s trip to South Africa played a crucial role in persuading him to make the move.

Mayo shared his thoughts with CR Belouizdad TV, saying, “The negotiations with the president went well. He was a lovely guy and came all the way to South Africa to convince me to join the club.”

Why Mayo Chose CR Belouizdad

Mayo was impressed by the club’s history and stature in Algerian football.

“I looked at the club, its history, and everything else. I saw it’s one of the big clubs in Algeria, and that’s why I’m here today,” he explained.

He also spoke highly of the welcoming nature of the club and the city, saying, “The president was good, and we have a great relationship. I’m grateful to be here, and I love the team and the lovely city of Algeria.”

Looking Ahead to the 2024/25 Season

With the new season on the horizon, Mayo is excited to contribute to CR Belouizdad’s success.

He’s set high expectations for himself and is eager to connect with the fans.

“Expect Khanyisa Mayo, the goal-scoring machine, someone who’s going to work hard and be loved by the fans,” he promised. “I can’t wait to meet everyone and make this a great season for both CRB and myself.”
