When Foo Fighters’ lead singer Dave Grohl was spotted in Los Angeles on Thursday, he chose to sidestep questions about Taylor Swift, following his recent criticism of the pop star.
About a month ago, Grohl hinted that Taylor Swift might be lip-syncing during her Eras Tour while performing in London. Now, when a paparazzo in Los Angeles asked him to elaborate on his comments, the 55-year-old musician decided to keep quiet.
Grohl’s Silent Stance
The paparazzo directly questioned Grohl about the online backlash suggesting that his remarks on Swift’s live performances were unfair. Grohl did not respond. He also remained silent when asked why he doubted Swift’s live singing abilities, despite her 14 Grammy wins and her insistence that she does not lip-sync.
In the footage captured by TMZ, Grohl, who was smoking a cigarette, simply stared wide-eyed when pressed to clarify his previous statements.
Back in June, Grohl criticized Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour, implying she wasn’t singing live. During one of his own concerts, he joked about his tour being called “The Errors Tour,” remarking on the multiple errors he had experienced.
He contrasted this with his live performance, saying, “That’s because we actually play live.”
When some audience members reacted with boos, Grohl defended his statement, asserting that fans who appreciate raw, live rock music were at the right place.
Before making his comments, Grohl had admitted to joking about Swift’s tour and expressed a desire to avoid her potential wrath.
The day after Grohl’s comment, Swift seemed to address his claims indirectly by expressing gratitude to her band and crew for their hard work. She encouraged her fans to cheer for her team, highlighting their dedication to performing live for 3.5 hours each show.
Swift praised her performers and expressed deep appreciation for the support they received.
Previous Good Terms
Grohl and Swift have had a positive relationship in the past. Grohl has praised Swift for re-recording her albums to reclaim her back catalog and once mentioned how Swift helped him during a party hosted by Sir Paul McCartney.
Public Reaction
Many online users weren’t pleased with Grohl’s jab at Swift, who has sold over 200 million records globally. One user wrote, “Oh Tayvoodoo is coming for him and he deserves it. Can’t handle that a woman is more talented and successful.”
Another said, “Wow Grohl so washed he has to use Taylor’s name for free PR? Embarrassing thought he was better than that what a shame.”
Some fans speculated that Grohl’s comments might have been influenced by negative reactions his daughter, Violet Grohl, received from Swift’s fans, or “Swifties,” after Violet criticized Swift for traveling between concerts in a private jet.
