Team GB’s rowing team secured a bronze medal in the men’s four final on Thursday afternoon, marking a significant achievement for the squad.
This victory brings Team GB’s total medal count at the Paris Olympics to 20.
The men’s four crew, consisting of Oli Wilkes, David Ambler, Matt Aldridge, and Freddie Davidson, had a challenging start but rallied to finish in third place. They overtook Italy with 800 meters to go and held on to secure bronze.
The gold went to the United States, while New Zealand took silver.
Earlier that day, Team GB had already celebrated a bronze medal in the women’s double sculls.
Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne and Becky Wilde gave a strong performance over 2000 meters to take third place. The event was won by New Zealand, with Romania securing the silver medal.
Narrow Miss for Helen Glover in the Women’s Four Final
In another close contest, Helen Glover and her team had to settle for silver in the women’s four final. The British crew, which included Glover, Esme Booth, Sam Redgrave, and Rebecca Shorten, was narrowly beaten by the Netherlands, the reigning world champions.
Despite starting as favorites and briefly taking the lead in the final 500 meters, they couldn’t hold off the Dutch team, who clinched gold, while New Zealand took bronze.
Team GB’s rowers showed resilience and skill throughout their events, contributing significantly to the nation’s impressive performance at the Games.
