Leruma United Takes Over Marumo Gallants’ Spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as PSL Releases Draft Fixtures Across South Africa

The latest buzz in South African football is the kickoff of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, with some exciting new changes to look forward to. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has released the draft fixtures, and there’s a fresh face among the clubs: Leruma United.

This new club steps in to fill the spot left by Marumo Gallants, who have moved up to the Betway Premiership.

This season, the league will also feature two newcomers who earned their spots through the SAFA ABC Motsepe League promotion playoffs held in Upington.

Kruger United from Mpumalanga and Highbury FC from the Eastern Cape join Leruma United as the latest additions to the league.

Additionally, Cape Town Spurs make a return after a short stint in the top tier, having been relegated from the elite league after just one season. Meanwhile, last season’s champions, Magesi, will be competing in the Betway Premiership.

The PSL has released the draft fixtures, with the season set to kick off on Friday, 23 August.

The opening day will feature two matches: newcomers Highbury FC will face off against Black Leopards at Isaac Wolfson Stadium, while Maritzburg United hosts Casric Stars at Chatsworth Stadium.

The action continues on Saturday, 24 August, with four fixtures on the slate.

JDR Stars will take on Upington City at Giant Stadium, and Kruger United will travel to Suzuki Stadium to play Hungry Lions.

Leruma United will make their debut against Pretoria Callies at TUT Stadium, and Venda FC will welcome Milford FC at Thohoyandou Stadium.

On Sunday, Baroka FC will clash with Orbit College at Global Stadium, and AmaTuks will face off against the returning Cape Town Spurs at Tuks Stadium.

The 2024/25 National First Division season will conclude on Saturday, 18 May.

Following this, the PSL promotion playoffs are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 27 May, and will wrap up on Saturday, 14 June.
