The closure is expected to last for 24 hours, beginning on Sunday, July 16, 2023.

The decision was confirmed by Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, in a statement released on Saturday.

This closure aims to facilitate uninterrupted palliative adjustments to the bridge, which are necessary to complement the recent reopening of the Apongbon Bridge.

Closure and Purpose of Palliative Work

The closure of the Eko Bridge inwards of the Apongbon Bridge is an immediate measure taken by the Lagos State Public Works in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to conduct remedial palliative works.

Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola emphasizes the importance of these adjustments to ensure the overall structural integrity of the bridge.

Lagos to close Eko Bridge for repairs

Traffic Management and Alternative Routes

In light of the closure, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has deployed personnel to manage traffic in key areas, including C.M.S, Marina, Ijora, and other alternative routes on both the Lagos Island and Mainland.

The statement advises motorists traveling from the Mainland/Surulere to Lagos Island to utilize the Ijora-Olopa/Causeway route to Carter Bridge (Idumota) in order to reach their intended destinations.

Similarly, motorists traveling from Lagos Island to Surulere/Mainland are advised to use Carter Bridge (Idumota) through Iddo/Oyingbo to Herbert Macaulay for their desired destinations.

The statement provides further guidance for motorists, suggesting the use of alternative routes such as connecting Carter Bridge (Idumota) through Ijora Olopa by LAWMA Headquarters to Eko Bridge inwards Costain/Alaka.

Another option is to utilize the Third Mainland Bridge through Adekunle to connect Herbert Macaulay, providing access to desired destinations.
