…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has once again apprehended twenty-five internet fraudsters, including Solomon Nnamdi Eke, who had been falsely representing himself as an agent of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
According to an EFCC statement released on its official Twitter page, Eke operated a Facebook account under the name Kelvin James, assuming the identity of an FBI agent named John Smith.
Intelligence Report Leads to Arrest
Following an intelligence report received by the EFCC, Eke, a Nigerian citizen, was arrested at Kurudu Phase 5, Abuja.
The anti-graft agency stated that he was apprehended alongside 24 other suspected internet fraudsters.
Sentencing and Court Proceedings
The EFCC revealed that Eke was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison by a High Court in Kaduna, presided over by Justice Darius Khobo.
The court found him guilty of the charges brought against him.
Additionally, Eke was given the option of paying a fine of N150,000 and was ordered to forfeit his iPhone 14 Pro Max phone to the Federal Government.
Charge and Plea
According to the EFCC, Eke was charged with falsely presenting himself as Kelvin James, a white man and Trading Manager, on Facebook in order to deceive unsuspecting victims and engage in love scams.
The charge stated that Eke was fully aware of the falsity of his actions, contravening Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
