…By Alan Peterson for TDPel Media. The Neath Port Talbot’s Environment Regeneration and Streetscene Services Cabinet in Wales has issued a traffic order to prevent parking on footpaths near the popular Waterfall Country in Glynneath.
The decision was made during a meeting on June 2, where councillors discussed the issue on the B4242 Pontneathvaughan Road and High Street.
Background:
The Waterfall Country, located on the outskirts of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, received a portion of £17.7 million in funding from the UK Government’s Levelling Up initiative earlier this year.
This funding aims to develop Neath as a prominent visitor destination known for its heritage and environment.
Despite the site attracting thousands of tourists annually to witness the Pontneddfechan Waterfalls, local residents have expressed concerns about regular parking on footways, obstructing visibility and hindering pedestrian use.
Implementation of Traffic Order:
Councillors voted in favor of passing the motion for a traffic order to address the issue of “inconsiderate parking practices by visitors to the Pontneddfechan Waterfalls.”
The decision was prompted by representations from the local ward member, highlighting the need to address the localized parking concerns.
The purpose of the traffic regulation orders is to promote road safety and prevent indiscriminate parking.
Improved Situation for All Parties:
Cllr Simon Knoyle, the ward member for Glynneath, believes that the implementation of the traffic restriction order will enhance the situation for both visitors to the waterfalls and nearby residents.
He expressed concerns about previous instances of obstructive parking and emphasized the importance of resolving this issue to ensure a better experience for all.
Restricted Parking Areas:
As a result of the traffic order, parking will no longer be permitted on the side of the B4242 Pontneathvaughan Road leading to the Angel hotel or on High Street.
While designated parking areas for waterfall visitors still exist, the public will no longer be allowed to park in these specific locations.
