…By Larry John for TDPel Media. Swansea Council has confirmed the return of the popular “free bus travel in Swansea” deal for the upcoming school summer holidays.
The initiative aims to support local residents during the cost of living crisis by providing free bus travel in and around the city.
The scheme, previously implemented during the Easter break, garnered significant participation from people of all ages.
Council’s Budget Allocation for Various Local Initiatives
The council has allocated funds from its budget for several projects aimed at improving the community.
These include enhancements to bus shelters, the replacement of old litter and dog waste bins, investments in road repairs, and the construction of additional dropped kerbs in high footfall areas.
Additionally, the council has allocated resources to drainage teams to mitigate the risk of flooding and set aside £1 million for projects supporting areas of greatest need.
Extensive improvements to city playgrounds and the introduction of nature trails in designated areas are also planned.
Potential Funding for Covid Memorial and Other Initiatives
Council funding may be allocated towards conducting a study for designing and installing a memorial to honor the lives lost during the Covid pandemic while recognizing the dedication of key workers.
Furthermore, the council aims to prioritize the development of sheltered spaces for teenagers equipped with renewable energy-powered mobile phone charging facilities.
Investment in new CCTV equipment is also part of the plan to reduce instances of anti-social behavior in city communities.
Council Leader’s Statement on Priorities
Councillor Rob Stewart, leader of Swansea Council, emphasized that the investment would be focused on benefiting residents and communities in areas of greatest need.
The council recognizes the importance of addressing issues such as waste management and road conditions, hence the continued investment in improvements and repairs.
