The Nigerian House of Representatives has received the report of its Special Committee on the Amendment of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
The amendment, the 6th since the return of Nigeria to Democracy twenty-three years ago, focused on 68 areas, aimed at improving governance in the country.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee who is also the Deputy Speaker of the House Ahmed Idris Wase said out of the proposed amendments three affected women as regards their participation in governance.
“First we have to appreciate Mr Speaker for the very good support he has given to the committee, members of the committee for the wonderful job they have done, the cooperation extended to us by our constituents and the nation at large, I appreciate and the appreciation we want to put on record.
“Though not ending, the constitution amendment is continuing process but we have just one while other work will continue in progress,” Wase explained.
While commending the committee for the job, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said the report will be considered and adopted next week Wednesday.
Mr Gbajabiamila said; “This is a report of the Constitution review committee.
It has three provisions that will affect women positively.
“So I can assure you, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
We are still in the process and there is a lot of lobbying to be done in both Houses and by God’s grace we will get through this one.
”
