Following a meeting with African leaders in Brussels, Belgium, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the withdrawal of French troops from Mali.
On Thursday, Macron made the announcement while speaking in Brussels.
Macron stated that the European Union and France no longer have the same priorities as the Mali administration.
He also paid respects to the soldiers who lost their lives battling terrorists in Mali. In Mali, some 48 French soldiers are said to have died.
Macron says most of them will now be redeployed to other countries within the Sahel, where the EU and its African fighters are fighting al-Qaeda and Daesh terrorists.
“We cannot remain militarily committed with authorities to which we do not share same priorities,” Macron said.
