Josh Allen, the formidable edge rusher from Jacksonville, recently made a significant announcement in a heartfelt video posted on X.

From now on, he will be known as Josh Hines-Allen, adopting a surname cherished by his sisters and other family members.

In his video, Allen emphasized the timeless significance of legacy, stating, “Legacy is forever, and I’m proud to carry that tradition on the back of my jersey.”

He expressed deep pride in continuing his family’s athletic legacy, honoring those who have worn the Hines-Allen name with immense pride and joy.

Reflecting on his family’s rich history in sports, Allen highlighted the influence of his athletic sisters and uncles, including Myisha Hines-Allen of the WNBA’s Washington Mystics and his uncle Gregory Hines, who was drafted by the Warriors in 1983 after an illustrious career at Hampton University.

His sisters LaTorri and Kyra also excelled in college basketball, with his uncle Keith making a mark at Montclair State.

A Personal Evolution

Addressing his name change, Allen affirmed, “My last name is changed, but I remain the same person on the field, committed to playing even better.”

He sees this moment as an opportunity to shape his narrative and build on his impressive career trajectory.

Coming off a stellar 2023 season where he recorded 17.5 sacks and earned his second Pro Bowl selection, Allen secured a lucrative five-year, $141.25 million contract extension.
