Bold Grandmother Punches Thief Attempting to Steal Car with Baby Inside in Laverton

Last Friday, an attempted carjacking in Laverton, Melbourne’s south-west, took a surprising turn.

A man tried to steal a luxury Range Rover 4WD, seemingly unaware that it wasn’t empty.

The bold thief saw a mother step out of the vehicle, likely thinking it was his chance.

Little did he know, the back seat wasn’t vacant.

Inside, with the baby, was the 63-year-old grandmother.

This no-nonsense grandmother wasn’t about to let anyone take her daughter’s car or, more importantly, her grandchild.

When the would-be carjacker made his move, she quickly gave him a punch in the face, forcing him to flee to a waiting getaway car.

The getaway driver, who was captured on CCTV jamming to rap music, sped off in the allegedly stolen vehicle.

Meanwhile, the owner of the 4WD was inside a post office, handling a passport application.

Leanne, an Australian Post worker, praised the grandmother’s quick thinking, calling her a hero.

“Good on her,” Leanne told Nine News.

“She did what she had to do to protect her grandchild.

These people think they can do what they like and get away with it.”

Crime Spree

Police linked this attempted carjacking to a series of other crimes in the area.

Over three days, three men were suspected of committing multiple armed robberies and aggravated burglaries.

A blue Ford Falcon was reportedly stolen from Point Cook on June 19 while the owners were at home.

Additionally, three men in high-visibility jackets allegedly stormed another house, stealing jewelry, laptops, and bank cards, which were later used at a service station.

Arrests and Charges

Authorities eventually caught up with the suspects in Broadmeadows, 27 km north-east of Laverton.

Three men, aged 21 and 22, were arrested and charged with serious offenses, including home invasion, assault, and making threats to kill.

They have been remanded in custody, awaiting their court appearance.
