Hungary’s Barnabas Varga, who endured a frightening head injury during their Euro 2024 clash against Scotland, has been discharged from hospital.
The incident unfolded in the second half when Varga collided with Scotland’s goalkeeper, Angus Gunn, while contesting a long free kick.
During the match, Varga was knocked unconscious upon impact and fell to the ground, indicating a potential concussion.
Post-game assessments revealed he had undergone surgery to repair multiple facial fractures resulting from the collision.
The Hungarian Football Association announced Varga’s discharge via Twitter, stating he left the hospital in Stuttgart and is now recuperating at home in Hungary.
A photo shared online showed Varga leaving the hospital accompanied by his girlfriend, Laura Skrapits, with messages of support pouring in from his club, Ferencvarosi Torna.
