Africa’s largest creator platform, Selar, has introduced a new initiative aimed at assisting Nigerian tertiary institution students.
The ‘Selar Tuition Fund’ is a N5 million project designed to provide N100,000 each to students in need.
Alleviating Financial Burden
The primary goal of the ‘Selar Tuition Fund’ is to alleviate the financial burden on Nigerian students, allowing them to focus on their studies and career development.
This initiative also demonstrates Selar’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s Sustainable Development Goal for education, ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
Empowering Creators
Selar, based in Lagos, is an online store builder empowering creators and entrepreneurs in Africa and beyond to monetize their skills and knowledge as digital products.
With a community of over 150,000 creators and a user base exceeding 800,000, Selar is making a significant impact in the digital economy.
Addressing Economic Challenges
Nigeria is currently facing economic challenges, resulting in increased living costs.
This has made education more expensive, especially in public universities where tuition fees have risen significantly.
Long-Term Commitment
The ‘Selar Tuition Fund’ is not a one-time initiative but will be an annual project.
This long-term commitment underscores Selar’s dedication to promoting access to education in Nigeria.
Supporting Final-Year Students
In its inaugural year, the fund aims to support final-year students, helping them overcome the financial obstacles of education.
Selar plans to assist 50 final-year students with N100,000 each to complete their studies.
Founder/CEO Statement
Douglas Kendyson, Founder, and CEO of Selar, emphasized the importance of formal education and the fund’s significance in providing access to quality education.
He expressed excitement about the impact the fund would have on the selected students.
Internship Opportunities
In addition to financial aid, Selar is committed to offering internship opportunities to fund recipients, enhancing their educational experience and career growth.
Application Criteria
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be students of a Nigerian university, in their final year of study, with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or a cumulative grade of 65%.
They must also demonstrate financial need and provide a clear statement of purpose.
Application Process
The application period for the ‘Selar Tuition Fund’ is from February 14th to February 21st, 2024.
