Dictatorship of One Party Looms? Opposition Cries “Coalition or Bust!” as PDP Makes Desperate Plea

Opposition cries “Unity or Bust!” as PDP calls for Alliance Against APC

A Divided Front Faces a Monolithic Force: Can Nigeria’s Opposition Unite for 2027?

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a rallying cry to fellow opposition parties: join forces or risk losing against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.

With memories of APC’s growing dominance fresh in their minds, PDP leaders warn of a one-party state and plead for a unified front to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.

Atiku Sounds the Alarm: “Dictatorship of One Party” Looms

Former Vice President and PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, directly addressed the National Executive Committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria.

His message was stark: “We have all seen how the APC is increasingly turning Nigeria into a dictatorship of one party.”

Atiku sounded the alarm, painting a grim picture of a one-party state and its potential consequences for generations to come.

He urged opposition parties to rise above individual ambitions and recognize the dire need for a collective stand against the APC’s perceived agenda.

PDP Deputy Doubles Down: Merger or Penury

Echoing Atiku’s sentiment, PDP Deputy Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi emphasized the dire economic straits inflicted on Nigerians by the APC government.

In an interview with PUNCH, Abdullahi declared that defeating the APC in 2027 could only be achieved through a “merger or coming together of all opposition political parties.”

He elaborated, “If other political parties want to go about it individually, they are not as strong as the PDP.

It is very difficult for us to attain the objective of taking charge of the government and sacking this army of occupation that has decided to inflict maximum penury and anguish on Nigerians.”

A Plea for Unity in the Face of Adversity

The PDP’s message is clear: without a unified front, opposition parties risk ceding control to the APC for another term.

They warn of dire consequences for both democracy and the well-being of Nigerians.

It remains to be seen whether other opposition parties will heed the call and form a powerful alliance capable of challenging the APC’s dominance in 2027.
