Tottenham Still in Title Race, Insists Postecoglou
Despite Tottenham Hotspur’s recent slump in form, manager Ange Postecoglou has refused to rule his team out of the Premier League title race.
Spurs are currently fifth in the table, six points behind leaders Liverpool, but Postecoglou believes they can still challenge for the trophy.
A Rough Patch, But Not Out Yet
Tottenham were top of the table in November but only took one point from five games in December.
However, they have since won four of their last five league matches, and Postecoglou is confident that they can continue to improve.
“We’ve gone through a really tough period,” Postecoglou said.
“We had four games when results went against us, but we’ve clawed our way back. We’re still in there.”
Key Match Against Manchester United
Tottenham’s next game is against Manchester United on Sunday, and Postecoglou is hoping for a win to close the gap to Liverpool.
United are also in inconsistent form, so it is a game that both teams will be looking to win.
“Our performances for the most part have been pretty consistent,” Postecoglou said.
“But all that is meaningless if we don’t finish the season stronger than the first half of the season and that’s what we’ve got to do.”
Postecoglou Confident in His Team
Postecoglou is confident that Tottenham have the quality to challenge for the title.
He has strengthened his squad in the January transfer window with the signings of Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner, and he believes that his team can kick on in the second half of the season.
“We’ve scratched and clawed our way into a decent position in the league,” Postecoglou said.
“We’re into the next round of the cup, those possibilities are always there.
“And we certainly want to tackle them as robustly as possible without any fear – or fear of not achieving anything.
“We’ve done it from day one.
We’ve had a vision of the sort of football we want to play and some parts are really, really good and have surprised me with the progress, and other parts we’re still in the early stages of development.
“We’ve got a platform here to kick on and try on from here.”
Tottenham’s fans will be hoping that Postecoglou is right and that the team can challenge for the title in the second half of the season.
It will be a tough task, but Spurs have shown in the past that they are capable of achieving great things.
