Tarbuck’s Hit-and-Run Incident
Veteran entertainer Jimmy Tarbuck, known for his decades-long career in showbusiness, was recorded leaving the scene of a hit-and-run crash involving parked cars near his affluent £5.5 million home in Coombe Gardens, New Malden, southwest London.
The incident, captured on a neighbor’s Ring doorbell, showed Tarbuck driving his two-liter green Lexus away from the scene, leaving a row of damaged vehicles behind.
Legal Proceedings and Guilty Plea
Despite not attending Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court in person, Tarbuck pleaded guilty to the offences by post.
The court learned that the collision occurred near his home, resulting in charges of driving without due care and attention, failing to stop after an accident, and failing to report an accident. Tarbuck faced fines totaling £716, along with costs and a victim surcharge, and received five penalty points on his clean driving licence.
Court Details and Sentencing
Prosecutor Laura-Ann Harding detailed the incident, stating the collision occurred around 3:30 pm and involved multiple parked and empty vehicles.
The Ring doorbell footage presented in court depicted Tarbuck’s vehicle colliding with the parked Vauxhall Corsa before he continued driving away from the scene. The court also acknowledged Tarbuck’s lengthy career in showbusiness and his recent apology letter, expressing remorse for his actions.
Sentencing and Mitigating Circumstances
Bench chair Dr. Samantha Cobb highlighted Tarbuck’s deep remorse and sincere apologies, acknowledging the incident as uncharacteristic and out of line with his usual conduct.
The court took into account Tarbuck’s recent personal loss, citing the funeral of his sister in the days leading up to the incident. Tarbuck himself expressed an inability to explain his failure to stop on the day of the collision.
