Labour Leader Defiant: Joe Ajaero Vows to Continue Protest in Imo State Despite Assault

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has reiterated that the organized labour will not back down from their planned industrial action in Imo State until all their demands are fully addressed by the State Governor, Hope Uzodinma.

Ajaero, undeterred by the recent attack on him in Owerri, expressed this determination during a press conference at the Labour House in Abuja.

Defiance Amidst Assault: Ajaero Explains Purpose of Protest

Ajaero, accused of involvement in partisan politics, clarified that the demonstration where he was attacked was solely aimed at seeking justice for workers in Imo State who had not received their salaries for several months.

During the press conference, he recounted the harrowing experience, revealing that he was arrested by the police and subsequently handed over to thugs who subjected him to physical assault.

Violence and Threats: Ajaero’s Harrowing Experience

Ajaero detailed the brutal attack, explaining that he was mercilessly beaten, dragged on the ground, and received death threats. The assailants suggested throwing him into the Njaba River.

He thanked God for his life and emphasized that even his death would not have stopped the struggle for workers’ rights.

Justice Prevails: Ajaero Stands Firm Against Partisanship Accusations

Refuting claims of partisanship, Ajaero asserted that he is not a card-carrying member of any political party in Nigeria.

He challenged Governor Uzodinma’s accusation of playing local politics and expressed gratitude for being alive. Ajaero stated that anyone supporting the non-payment of workers’ salaries would attract generational curse.

No Retreat on Health Grounds: Ajaero Rejects Medical Tourism

Addressing concerns about his health, Ajaero stated that he would not seek medical treatment abroad, aligning with the NLC’s stance against medical tourism.

He emphasized his commitment to receiving medical attention in the country, even if it means risking his life, until it becomes absolutely necessary to travel overseas. The NLC president stands resolute in his dedication to the cause and justice for workers in Imo State.
