On November 8, 2023, State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Adijat Olaleye, made a shocking revelation concerning the alleged actions of Lateef Olaniran, a secondary school teacher in Ogun State.
The accusations are deeply concerning, and they have prompted an official statement from the commissioner.
Teacher’s Background and Arrest
Lateef Olaniran teaches mathematics at Ebenezer Grammar School in Iberekodo, Abeokuta, and resides in Ogun State’s Ipokia Local Government Area.
He is employed by the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission. The allegations came to light when a young lady reported a rape incident to a member of the commissioner’s team.
Swift Action by the Ministry
Upon receiving the report, the Ministry of Women Affairs swiftly initiated action.
The victim was located, and she underwent various tests in a laboratory before being taken to the police station to make a formal report.
The ministry, in collaboration with the police, subsequently attempted to apprehend the accused.
Arrest of the Suspect
When the authorities entered the compound where Lateef Olaniran resided, they heard a girl’s cry for help. With police support, they were able to apprehend the suspect.
The victim in the teacher’s room accused him of forcibly having sexual intercourse with her and making threats against her life if she didn’t persuade her family to send him money.
Legal Procedures
